- Refills are provided by merely clicking on the appropriate prescription from the list of previously written prescriptions.
- The program tracks the number of refills and the date of the last refill for each prescription provided to a patient.
- If the patient does not request a renewal of a prescription after the system believes the current prescription would have expired or depleted, the prescribing physician is notified.
- Prescription history is available in the same window as renewals.
- The system retains and differentiates medications and diagnoses prescribed and established by physicians outside the practice.
- At the time a medication is “ordered” the system shows any potential drug-drug and drug-diagnosis interactions, including those for any medications and/or diagnoses made by physicians outside the prescribing physician’s practice (provided, of course, such information has been entered appropriately).
- All renewals are logged in the patient’s record as well as in the audit trail.
- Certain changes are allowed during the renewal (aka “refill”) process. If these occur, they are logged in the patient’s chart and the physician may indicate why the change was made.
