The window to the left allows the physician to perform general searches to identify patients who have particular diagnoses, insurance companies, etc. The physician can, for example, even indicate whether the patient currently or has ever had the diagnosis, or has had a certain number of visits for this diagnosis over a specified period of time.

If a search needs to be repeated periodically (e.g. to identify children due for well-child examinations), the search criteria can be stored and labeled and the search performed by merely clicking on the name of the search.

The search engine allows for "fuzzy terminology" such as "diabetes" which would identify patients with either type I or type II diabetes, with or without complications vs. specific or exact terminology such as "Type I uncontrolled with neurological complications."

In addition to the general search window shown above, the physician may also locate patients using windows specific to laboratory tests, medications, immunizations, preventative care items or family history.

The window below illutrates a search for laboratory tests and results.  Note that a search may be conducted for patients who have had a combination of tests, and for each test, a range of values can be specified. Clicking on a particular patient will display the results for that patient as shown below.

Similarly, the physician can identify patients who are on, or who have ever received, particular medications. The physician may specify whether the search should be limited to brand names, generics, or even any drug in the same class of pharmaceuticals.

Note the small "gear" in the lower left of each window shown above. This icon can be "dragged and dropped" onto a similar icon displayed on the main window to indicate that the results of the individual searches should be combined. The program will display a window (shown below) to allow the physician to indicate how the results of the individual searches should be combined. The results are then displayed in a final result window. This process of combining searches can be repeated as many times as needed.
