Improved Quality of Life
|
Physicians today are leaving the practice of medicine in record numbers, and there are fewer highly qualified applicants to medical schools. Many medical specialties are no longer able to fill their fellowships, and consequently, there will be shortages of many specialists in the near future.
|
In general, physicians are dismayed by the observation that the practice of medicine today no longer revolves around the health of the patient, but is a constant battle with third party payors, and requires a defensive posture for medical liability. Physicians today feel that many of their long hours are not spent in delivering care to their patients, but rather are squandered performing tedious documentation and other administrative tasks.
While EHRs cannot remedy all such issues, they can help improve the overall "quality of life" for the physicians.

DrKnow improves quality of life by:
- Improving communications with patients thereby providing increased "satisfaction" for the physician as he cares for his patients, and decreasing the time required for activities that detract from direct patient contact such as documentation, reviewing lab, authorizing refills.
- Allowing the physician to have more time outside the office, e.g. for his family, by decreasing the time required to complete all the documentation and such non-reimbursable chores as reviewing laboratory results and approving prescription refill requests.
- Decreasing the stress related to potential medical liability by improved documentation and decreasing the likelihood of errors of either omission or commission.
- Improving the quality of care by alleviating concerns regarding drug interactions and compliance with national standards of care.
- Decreasing concerns regarding appropriate reimbursement by providing adequate documentation and insuring preventative care, thereby qualifying the physician for pay-for-performance bonuses and a higher level of reimbursement .
