How using DrKnow benefited my practice

There were some immediate economic benefits that I realized with the use of the DrKnow™ EHR.

  • Practice management - I was able to increase my practice volume by 20%. Using the search criteria we instituted a call back system to recall patients for wellcare during the month of their birthday. We would also recall patients who required rechecks for recently treated illnesses such as Strep throat, ear infections, asthma, etc.  We also recalled patients with high lipids, incomplete immunizations, etc.  Year to year comparisons show our weekly visits increased from an average of 175/wk to 210 /wk.

  • Another immediate economic advantage we found by using the EHR, we can automatically upload our immunizations to the city registry. Previously this required filling out a separate form each time we gave an immunization. This cost about $10,000 a year in manual labor, and we realized an immediate savings in payroll.

  • By using the EHR to better document the level of evaluation and management for each visit we are able to bill our visits at a higher rate, and get the appropriate compensation. Previously we would be afraid to bill for a 99214 or 99215 because it required too much documentation to justify that level of service. But with the comprehensive documentation provided by filling in the various templates provided, I am confident that my records will reflect a higher level of service, and would pass any audit.

  • Another benefit of using the EHR is the ability to file prescriptions electronically. This will enable us to avoid the mandatory use of the state prescription forms that goes into effect next April.
